Sparking Business and Job Growth in New York
Welcome to the Build Now-NY website. Here you will find information about one of New York’s most successful economic development programs. Thus far, the four rounds of funding offered through the program have assisted economic developers, local government officials, and companies looking to expand their operations to pre-permit their sites and fast-track construction and job creation. Participation in Build Now-NY provides:
- An attractive incentive to lure companies to your site.
- The ability to select the type of development most suited to your community and to develop “buy in” before a project is announced.
- Marketing assistance from Empire State Development.
- Technical assistance and help with permitting issues from the Governor's Office of Regulatory Reform.
- The ability to substantially expedite any economic development construction project.

Build Now-NY is a competitive grant program that has been helping local communities grow jobs for years. With a modest State expenditure, Build Now-NY has helped local communities attract substantial private-sector investment and create thousands of jobs for nearby residents. The program has distributed just over $4 million to help local communities pay for professional services related to engineering studies, environmental assessments, and legal support. Since 1999, over 12,700 new or retained jobs have been developed on Build Now-NY sites.

During 2006, the authorization of Round 4 of the program provided matching grants of up to $100,000 to help local entities do the ground work that continues to help convince even more companies to invest in New York. Round 4 added another 23 Build Now-NY sites, creating an inventory of 96 sites that have received funding through the program for the State to market.
The program helps local officials and economic developers focus on exactly what type of business they would like to attract to their community. Development profiles for different types of businesses that have been successfully recruited to New York State are available to guide discussion of the benefits, impacts, and the suitability of sites for businesses in these categories.
